Southfork Cemetery Clears Land for the Cagle Addition

Southfork Cemetery is responding to the growing need for additional burial plots and is expanding the cemetery's capacity. With utmost care and reverence, the land behind the Southfork Baptist Church is currently undergoing meticulous clearance to make way for this extension. The new addition will be named the Cagle Addition and promises to be a cherished place of remembrance for future generations.

The decision to name the new addition the Cagle Addition was made to honor the Cagle family, who have been long-standing pillars of the Southfork community. Their dedication and commitment to the betterment of the church and cemetery have left an indelible mark on the hearts of many.

Southfork Cemetery gets new fence

When Ann Taylor Blase visited the Southfork Cemetery and saw the fence was in such poor condition, she decided that it needed a new fence and that if it was to be done, her generation would have to do it.

Since she grew up in the Southfork community and most of her relatives are buried there, she contracted another Southfork native, Eddie Wells, and told him of her vision. Wells, who lives in the community, agreed with her and called a meeting of the Southfork Cemetery Committee in November of 2014. They were in agreement with the plan to raise the money and construct a new wrought iron fence around the property. The committee members were Chairman Eddie Wells, Treasurer Kathy Anderson, Annette Milloway, James Wilder, James DeVault, and Tim Wells.

The Richardson Fence Company in Texarkana made a proposal on the job and the committee mailed letters to many who have family buried in the cemetery informing them of the project and the cost of the fence. Contributions began coming in at a rapid rate, and the Richardson Fence Company was hired to do the job. Eddie Wells oversaw the removal of many trees and the old chain link fence. The old cemetery area and the new area across the road are all included in the project.

The installation of the black wrought-iron fence and two ornate gates is complete. A new flag pole and U.S. flag are in place. On the west side of the main gate is a garden area that contains the flag, a marker stating it was given in memory of all those laid to rest in the cemetery who served their country, and a concrete bench. On the east side of the main gate is a garden area that contains a beautiful marker that contains the names of all those who contributed to the project.

On July 4 there was a Southfork Reunion and Dedication of the new fence. After the dedication ceremony, there was a potluck lunch and a time to visit. Invitations were sent to those who have family and friends buried here, along with former and current residents of the community, and members and former members of the Southfork Baptist Church.

This fence was installed in 2015. Those who contributed were
